A Day at The Beach

June 11, 2008

Phu Quoc Island, Vietnam

After breakfast, we headed to the beach. It's about 40 meters from the table. I've not been one to lounge about on beaches. My first trip to Hawaii I paced the beach. But I'm much more laid back than I was.

We brought some drinks and snacks, and settled down on the chaise lounges beneath and large umbrella made of palm fronds. And then a light rain started. But we were dry, and the weather was still warm. So we stayed.

I whipped out a copy of Neuromancer, some of the light reading I brought. The rain became more intense.

Others who had started earlier than us have gone in. I'm not sure why. The umbrellas all seem to be working, and if you need more drinks, you can raise a small blue flag and a waiter will come and bring you whatever you want. At this point, we have our own private beach.

The lifeguard stand keeps an assortment of water toys including a huge tricycle with big inflated wheels than make the contraption float as you pedal it into the water. But the surf is rough this time of year, and I doubt I would get it through the waves without flipping it.

I've found a soft drink I like. I've never seen the brand in The States, but Miranda has a flavor called Xaxi, sometimes spelled Sasi, which is like an old-fashioned sarsaparilla. I'll have to check BevMo when I get home.

Must go now. I have more doing nothing to do.
