Travel Day

Cancun, Mexico

Every morning on a travel day I play "What did I forget to pack?" I went down my check list. I just bought 4 shirts light enough for the tropics and a new Speedo. I figured If anyone asked, I'd say I was German. I also learned we could change the name of my house to Casa del Reloj Quebrado because all but one of my dive watches had dead batteries. The airplane food I packed was baloney and mustard sandwiches, and granola bars.

I put a pen in my pocket. Most countries you travel to require you to fill out a landing card.

I changed the passwords on the email and Twitter accounts I would be using. You should do this before and after travel. Tourist zones are high crime areas, especially cyber-crime.

The first flight was from San Jose to Phoenix, then on to Cancun. Somehow the airport in Phoenix reminded me of Hong Kong International.

At the airport in Cancun. I exchanged 40 bucks to Pesos, then got bamboozled at a massive time-share stand. By the way, no one will call it time-share anymore. Now it's called a "club". I was down another 50 bucks. I bought a ticket for the van that took us to the hotel.

This was going to be a week at a resort. Not our typical tour. We didn't know how we would experience Mexican culture in an all-inclusive. What we were going to experience in the resort was mostly eating. The hotel had many restaurants, each served a different cuisine. Tonight we dined at the Brazilian place and had many dead animals served to us on spits. The usual suspects, cow, pig, chicken, then an entire leg of lamb. Ok, I'm was going to like it here.

The hotel started working us over about the time-share from the airport. They wanted us to sit through their time-share... er... club. Let the negotiations begin! Tonight, there was a small circus-type show near the pool. While we watched the show we made a deal with the hotel about their time-share. We were going to see the pyramid free, and I was going to get a good deal on SCUBA diving.
